Paolo Pezzino has been Full Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Pisa. His fields of study are the history of the Italian Mezzogiorno, Mafia, the massacres of civilians during the Second World War, the teaching of history and the history of Republican Italy. He is currently working on a major study of the politics of the retribution after II WW. Since the inauguration (2 June 2000) he is Scientific Director of the Audiovisual Museum of Resistance in Fosdinovo (MS).
Since 2016 he is member of the Scientific Committee of the National Institute “Ferruccio Parri” of Milan, Network of Historical Institutes of Resistance and Contemporary Age. He has directed the ANPI (National Association of Italian Partisans) e INSMLI (National Institut for the History of the Liberation Movement in Italy) projet “Atlas of Nazi and Fascist massacres in Italy, 1943-1945”, financed by the government of RFT (see www.straginazifasciste.it)
